PANOSCAN
The Panoscan system is a breakthrough in panoramic capture: it produces extremely high resolution images (up to 560.8 megabytes); it is capable of producing amazing 360° images without any stitching or post-production, using a range of lenses; it can also produce QuickTime™ VR movies automatically.
The Panoscan has been based on Phase One digital line scan technology, which is light sensitive up to ISO 1600. It has 42bit internal colour depth (14bit per colour precision), and offers up to 11f stops of exposure, giving a superior result in a mixed light situation. Images are downloaded on to an Apple Powerbook G3 in a standard TIFF file.
The Panoscan has been chosen by ODA to capture every salon in the Louvre, Paris to provide source material for a major subscription educational website, giving the most comprehensive representation to date of the museum’s vast collection. It has also been bought in great numbers by police departments in Europe and the US to capture crime scenes. Its top-end scans mean that details as small as the writing on sweet wrappers in a bin on the other side of the room can be rendered clearly.
